The methods of the Ancient Masters
Short description
In the National Gallery, London, we can see an unfinished
painting by Michelangelo Buonarroti: The Manchester
Madonna. In Antwerps Museum voor Schone
Kunsten, there is an other unfinished painting by Johan Van
Eyck: Santa Barbara.
These paintings are interesting for us because they demonstrate
the techniques of the Masters of the 15th century. Cennino Cennini,
in his Libro dellArte (The Book of the
Art Firenze, Italy, 1437) describes the same
techniques.
Now Im going to illustrate this method with a picture of
one of my granddaughters.
