This is the ordinary manner for the underpainting of the red draperies.
We’ve already seen that The other colors were painted differently.

The underpainting of a red drapery was made with a (somewhat) permanent red pigment,
often Vermilion but Lead Red (= Minium) could be used too.

As for every other drapery, the artist was careful of depicting the values correctly.
