Alizarine and Dioxazine Violet PV23

This trial was made in 1994. I used an acrylic medium, which doesn’t yellow in the dark, what makes the interpretation of the tests easier.

It shows that both Alizarine PR83 and Dioxazine PV23 have decidedly faded in sunlight.

It’s important to underline that I’ve tested two different brands of Dioxazine (both came from very renowned manufacturers all over the world).

Another thing of interest: every year I retest some pigments (always the same ones) which act as yardsticks, for example always the same Alizarine PR83. The weather changes every year so that each trial differs from all the others. It’s thus necessary to maintain some point of comparison.

Just for the record: in this trial, I had numbered the samples with the zodiac signs.
